RSIPF and SIPDP work together for cyber safety in Solomon Islands
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) with the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP) are working together to deliver trainings within the RSIPF and out in the communities throughout Solomon Islands on the cyber safety.
“SIPDP on 28 October 2020 handed over to RSIPF some merchandise that can be used as part of the community awareness presentations. The merchandise includes new banners, a tent and 100 kilograms of giveaways including t-shirts, notebooks, stress balls, bags and pencil cases. The merchandise are worth $30,000.00,” says Commissioner of RSIPF, Mostyn Mangau.
Commissioner Mangau explains, “The RSIPF and the SIPDP recognise the need for cyber safety awareness and education presentations and have ensured they have trainers available in each of the provinces to deliver presentations to schools, churches and communities to educate our students and youth on how to use internet access especially the impacts on using social media.”
RSIPF has 35 trainers in Honiara and the provinces who can deliver presentations to the local communities on remaining safe whilst accessing the internet.
With COVID19 travel restrictions, the Cyber Safety Pasifika team, are working with SIPDP Advisors to facilitate online training. Over the past fortnight RSIPF, officers have participated in two online training presentations:
• Facebook Media Officers Training and
• Cyber Security Threat landscape and analysing artifacts.
An additional six Cyber Safety Pasifika online training programs are scheduled for RSIPF officers between November 2020 and March 2021, which will ensure RSIPF are remaining up to-date with technology in the fight against cyber threats.
“We are all working extremely hard to assist the Solomon Islands in keeping our citizens safe whilst accessing the internet,” says Commissioner Mangau.
He adds, “I want to thank the Government of Australia through the SIPDP for their continuing support to the RSIPF especially during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
