Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, (RSIPF) National Traffic Department recorded 10 traffic incidences during the period 23 to 29 October 2020 in Honiara compared to the previous week when 33 cases were reported.

Complainants reported six of the cases while officers of the National Traffic Department reported four cases.

“Last week we recorded a total of seven cases for careless driving, two cases for presence of alcohol in person’s body and one case for permitting the use of an unlicensed motor vehicle,” says Director of the National Traffic Department Superintendent Fred Satu.

“As we can see, there were seven cases for careless driving and two for presence of alcohol in person’s blood. Both offences can result in the loss of innocent lives. Please vehicle users DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE .We need to be reminded that there are also other road users out there.”

Superintendent Satu adds, “Vehicle owners and drivers should be very cautious when using the roads during the State of Public Emergency including in the the Emergency Zone in Honiara from Poha in the West and Alligator Creek in the East.”

“I want to remind the general public to continue to abide by our traffic laws as they are here to safeguard us. And I want to ask all the vehicle drivers to continue the good behaviour shown in our report resulting in the decrease of traffic offences committed during the past week,” says Superintendent Satu.

The accused in the ten cases have been charged for their respective offences and bailed to appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court at their respective dates.

“I want to thank all my officers for their hard work during the past week. And thank the vehicle drivers and owners as well as pedestrians who have continued to follow the traffic rules,” says Superintendent Satu.
