Two people are dead after two separate traffic accidents occurred over the weekend in the capital Honiara.
The first incident happened near midnight on Friday 26 May at the Guzo Point along the Kukum Highway in Central Honiara involving a 15 seater bus. The bus was travelling eastward when it hit a pedestrian. The male, believed to be in 30’s, died instantly at the scene.
Police are appealing to members of the public who might have information about this incident or the identity of the deceased to come forward or call the RSIPF Kukum Traffic Centre on phone 22336.
The second fatal accident happened at 11 pm on Sunday 28 May in front of the Perch School opposite King George Sixth School in East Honiara involving a car.
It is believed that the car was traveling in a westerly direction when it ran off the road and hit the concrete wall in front of Perch School. Police transported the driver of the car and passenger to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) but the driver later died. Authorities at the NRH say the passenger is in a stable condition.
Police believe that both fatal accidents involved the consumption of alcohol.
Investigations have started into both fatal accidents.
