RSIPF arrests suspect for unlawful wounding in Makira Ulawa Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Kirakira Police Station in Makira Ulawa Province have arrested a man in his 20s for alleged unlawful wounding of a 48-year old man at Wango Village in West Makira on 13 November 2020.

Police be allege in Court that the suspect seriously wounded the victim on the face, hand and leg with a bush knife during an argument at Wango Village.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Makira Province Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “The matter was reported at the Kirakira Police Station by the victim and the suspect was formally arrested and placed in police custody.”

“The suspect has been dealt with and charged with one count of unlawful wounding contrary to section 229 of the Penal code and released on strict bail conditions to appear at the Kirakira Magistrates’ Court on 8 December 2020.”

“I call on members of the communities in and around Wango Village who may have any information about the incident to come forward and assist the police investigation. I also appeal to our good people in Makira Ulawa Province to work together with their community leaders and police. The police encourage each community to come up with its crime prevention strategy to ensure the upcoming festive season is crime free,” says PPC Sitai.
