Law enforcement agencies attend Advance Criminal Intel Course

The second training course to build the intelligence ability of law enforcement agencies to allow for more effective inter-agency collaboration to combat criminal organised groups has got underway at the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF)Headquarters at Rove in Honiara today(1 December 2020).

The Solomon Islands Police Development Program, (SIPDP) is funding the Course and attended by 11 investigators from the RSIPF as well as Immigration, Financial Intelligence Unit and Customs departments. SIPDP advisors are delivering the training.

Opening the Law Enforcement Agencies Advance Criminal Intelligence Course, RSIPF Assistance Commissioner (AC) Crime and intelligence Patricia Leta says, “This course is the second of its kind in Solomon Islands involving all the key law enforcement agencies. The training is to build the intelligence ability of the agencies to enable them to work together to combat criminal organised groups, track criminal activities, and create crime strategies that will bring about prevention as well as effective responses.”

“The Course builds on basic intelligence skills – developing strategic thinking. It aims to develop in-depth knowledge of what constitutes robust intelligence processes and how to ensure intelligence product is free from bias and based on well-founded facts.”

AC Leta explains, “This joint training opportunity shows the need for interagency cooperation in the fight against crime, both in Solomon Islands and internationally. It offers an opportunity for participants to liaise with their counterparts from other agencies and identify ways the agencies can assist each other.”

She adds, “At the end of the training, the participants will be required to complete a major exercise in syndicates to apply the strategies taught during the training.”

AC Leta thanked the SIPDP through the Program Commander Heath Davies and advisors for putting together the training module and funding the Course.
