Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Kirakira Police Station in Makira Ulawa Province have arrested a male person in his twenties for brewing kwaso at Mwanibwagosi Village in East Makira on 27 November 2020.

Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Peter Sitai says, “It is alleged that the suspect from Mwanibwagosi Village during the month of November 2020, had brewed kwaso and sold it to consumers within the area including workers at the Tamana Elite logging camp also in the same area.

“Following this activity, a member of the community on 23 November 2020 reported the matter to the Kirakira police and the arrest was made with all cooking apparatus and finished products confiscated.”

PPC Sitai adds, “The suspect was formally arrested and charged with one count of restriction on making liquor contrary to section 52 of the Liquor Act. He has been released on strict bail conditions to appear in the Kirakira Magistrates’ Court on a later date.”

“I appeal to all youth in Makira Ulawa Province to refrain from such illegal activity as it is in breach of the law and also harmful to human health. Instead the youth should make every effort to engage in other meaningful activities that will benefit themselves and the rest of the community. As we are approaching the festive season all stakeholders in crime prevention are encouraged to work together to ensure our communities are free from crime during the festive season,” says PPC Sitai.
