RSIPF officers undertake Maritime Safety training

Fifteen officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have completed three weeks of Maritime Safety training held at the Maritime Base in Honiara from 30 November to 18 December 2020.

This is the second group of a total of 39 officers who undertook the same training.

SOL Safety qualified trainers under the Solomon Island Maritime Safety and Administration (SIMSA) provided the training to equip police officers with new knowledge and skills for deployment to the Western border with Papua New Guinea.

Supervising Director Police Maritime Inspector Cherry Kimisi says, “The second group included 15 officers from the Police Response Team (PRT), Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD), Close Personnel Protection (CPP) and Police Maritime who successfully completed the training and were awarded with certificates in Maritime Safety.”

The training covered topics including:

• Personal Survival Techniques;
• Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting;
• Elementary First Aid; and
• Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities.

“I would like to thank the Solomon Islands Police Development Program (SIPDP), SIMSA, the Australian Defence Cooperation Program (DCP) and office of the Commissioner of Police for their support towards the training,” says Inspector Kimisi.
