Police arrests and charge 17-year-old male person for the allegation of rape in Western Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Gizo Police Station in Western Province have arrested and charged a 17 -year-old male person for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl at Sorezaru Village in Western Province on 17 January 2021.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Inspector Wilken Miriki says, “The defendant in this alleged rape incident committed the offence without the consent of the victim on two occasion between January and December 2020 at their Sorezaru Village at Vella la Vella Island.”

PPC Miriki says, “The matter was reported to police when the victim experienced pain to her body. The suspect have been arrested and placed in police custody. The victim is the defendant’s own niece.”

Inspector Miriki says, “The defendant was interviewed and charged with two counts of sexual intercourse of child under 15 years contrary to section 139 (1) (a) of the Penal Code Cap 26 as amended by the Penal Code (Amendment) (Sexual Offences) Act, 2016.”

The defendant has been remanded at Gizo correctional Centre awaiting court at a later date.
