Police arrests 42-year-old suspect for the allegation of murder in Western Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Munda Police Station in Western Province have arrested a 42-year-old male person for an alleged murder of a 21-year-old male person at Kibiri Village on 18 January 2021.
Initial report says that the deceased and his wife have an argument on the night on 17 January 2021 prior to the incident. The wife then escape from the deceased.
The deceased went to find his wife and he was allegedly attacked by a suspect with close fist and landed on his face. During the attack the deceased fall to the ground and sustain injuries to his head and mouth.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province Inspector Wilken Miriki says, “The deceased was taken to Helena Goldie Hospital and later pronounced death on the next day. The matter was reported to police and the suspect was arrested and placed in police custody.”
PPC Miriki says, “The suspect was later dealt with and charged for one count of murder contrary to section 200 of the penal code. He was remanded at Gizo Correctional Centre and will appear in the Gizo Magistrates’ Court at a later date.”
“Our sincere condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased following the tragic incident,” says Inspector Miriki.
Supervising PPC Miriki adds, “Police is dealing with the matter and I call on families and relatives of the deceased to refrain from taking the laws into your own hands but allow police to investigate the matter. I also call on members of the public who may have any information about the incident to come forward to the police.”
