Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Naha Police Station in East Honiara are investigating an infanticide incident that occurred at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Panatina campus on 24 January 2021.

According to an initial report, the body of the infant boy was found in a nearby bush close to the main road at the Panatina campus of SINU. It was covered with a piece of roofing iron and a stone when discovered.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander Honiara City (PPC) Superintendent John Matamaru says, “The matter was reported to police and officers at the Naha Police Station and a team from Police Forensics attended the scene and took photographs and conducted an inquiry.”

“The body of the infant is now at the National Referral Hospital morgue for medical examination. Medical Authorities confirmed that the infant was between seven and eight months old.”

“Our sincere condolences to the innocent life following the tragic incident,” says Superintendent Matamaru.

He adds, “So far there no suspect has been identified as the investigation continues. I call on people living in and around the SINU Panatina campus who may have any information about the matter to come forward and assist police with the investigation.”
