Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force at the Sexual Assault Unit in Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara have arrested and charged a 56-year-old male person for Rape and Sexual Intercourse with a girl under 15-years on 30 January 2021.

An initial report say that about 10 am on 23 December 2020, the defendant was drunk when he arrived home. The victim was sleeping in her room while her mother was away selling betel nuts on the roadside.

Commissioner Mostyn Mangau says, “It is alleged the defendant went straight into the victim’s room and laid on her side and started to touch the victim’s private part.”

“The victim felt what the defendant was doing to her and stood up to escape but the defendant held her body tightly and told her not to scream. The defendant then allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent.”

“After committing the offence, the defendant escaped from the victim. The victim in the alleged incident is the defendant’s own niece. The victim and the defendant lived at the Town Council Depo area along the roadside to Mbokonavera in Central Honiara.”

Commissioner Mangau adds, “The matter was reported to police after the victim started to feel pain in her private part. The suspect was arrested and charged for the offence of Rape and Sexual intercourse with a child under 15 years. The suspect has been remanded at the Rove Correctional Centre in Honiara to appear in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court on 15 February 2021.”
