Former Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia, Bishop George Takeli has officially opened the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) first recruit course for this year at the Rove Police Headquarters in Honiara this morning 8 February 2021.

There are 70 recruits - 40 male and 30 female undergoing the training. Only 67 recruits were present during the opening ceremony while three others are still making their way to the RSIPF Academy.

The recruits were selected from the nine provinces of Solomon Islands after applying and passing the selection criteria.

Bishop Takeli, who is patron of the first recruit course for this year told the recruits, “The theme for this recruit group, ‘A strong police force to influence good moral leadership and effective governance for successful nationhood in Solomon Islands’ provides the basis for understanding the purpose of the work of RSIPF as given in the organisation’s motto.”

The RSIPF motto is: “To provide a safe and peaceful Solomon Islands by strengthening relationship with community”.

“This motto is a concise description of the vision and goal for the work of RSIPF to establish peace, security, bring joy and prosperity in Solomon Islands,” said Bishop Takeli

He added,

“This is the purpose of the work of RSIPF and this work is guided by the standard operating principles including honesty, respect, integrity, diligence, respect for the laws and government.

You will learn these pillars and principles in detail during your training.”

“This work demands higher competence and personal discipline to carry it out. As a police officer, you will be expected to conduct yourself with the highest respect and honour to uphold the image, integrity, discipline and values most appropriate to the good image of RSIPF.”

“During your training it is important that you reflect on yourself, your life, faith and your personal call to serve in the RSIPF. Your training is also a time for gathering knowledge and skills to equip yourself to create a good career pathway within the Force,” Bishop Takeli told the new recruits.

Also at the ceremony, Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau told the recruits, “You will be required to give your full commitment and complete the course. It will not be easy. I make no apology for this as not only myself but also the community expect a high level of commitment and integrity from you when you join the other members of the RSIPF in undertaking this very challenging job.”

“To be successful in this course you will have to work together and support each other. I know that the Academy staff will help you wherever possible but it is also up to every one of you to ask for help if you are having some difficulties with any aspect of your training,” said Commissioner Mangau.

He added, “I ask you to commit yourselves to learning and to behave at all times in a professional manner that reflects well on the RSIPF. Adhere to RSIPF discipline requirements. You are a servant of all and you will face many challenges. This will demand you to dedicate yourself to the task before you. At the end of the training you will take your oath of allegiance fully committing yourself to your duties.”
