Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Gizo Police Station in Western Province have arrested and charged a 15-year-old male suspect for allegedly breaking into a store at Gizo on 27 February 2021.

An initial report on the alleged incident alleged said the suspect was drinking beer at the Gizo Hotel on the night of the incident. Between 4 am and 5 am the accused went to the store concerned and allegedly climbed the gate and entered the store. He allegedly removed some properties and cash.

Provincial Police Commander Western Province Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “The owner of the shop reported the matter at the Gizo Police Station and our officers from the Criminal Investigation Division started investigating the incident.”

“The suspect was arrested on 1 March 2021 and was placed in a cell at the Gizo Police Station awaiting further dealings.”

“The suspect has since been charged with one count of store break-in and committed felony contrary to section 300 (a) (2) of the Penal Code. He is now remanded at the Gizo Correctional Centre and will appear at the Gizo Magistrates’ Court at a later date,” says PPC Lenialu.

He adds, “I call on the general public in Gizo who may have any information related to the incident to come forward and assist our officers with their investigation into the matter.”
