RSIPF charges 48-year-old male for alleged rape of 14-year-old daughter in Central Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Yandina Police Station in the Russell Islands, Central Province have arrested and charged a 48-year-old man on 16 March for the alleged sexual assault of his 14-year-old daughter continuously since September 2019.
The victim is the suspect’s eldest daughter and lives with her parents at Marolone Village in West Russell.
Officer Commanding Station(OCS), at Yandina Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “The victim told police that each time her father raped her he will threaten her not to tell anyone in the village. The victim became traumatized and escaped to her aunty when they finally reported the matter to police at Yandina.”
“The defendant was interviewed and charged with one count of rape, contrary to section 136F (1) (a) & (b) of the Penal Code Cap 26 as amended by the Penal Code (Amendment) (Sexual Offences) Act, 2016, ” says Inspector Maelasi.
The defendant has been escorted to Honiara to submit his remand application.
“I want to appeal to all parents to look after your young girls to avoid such sad incidences from happening in our community. Never leave our young girls alone even though they are in their teen. I further appeal to all men in our communities to respect our young girls as such an incident will affect them for the rest of their lives. It is also against the law,” says Inspector Maelasi.
