Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Buala Police Station in Isabel Province are currently investigating an alleged unlawful damage of properties at Jejevo Village on 8 March 2021

An initial report into the incident say that a group of people went to Jejevo Village, in the Katova Ward, Isabel Province and aggressively caused very extensive and serious damages to people’s properties. The estimated value of properties destroyed and properties taken away is around $350,000.00

The properties included water tank, fiber glass and dugout canoe, generator, solar panel, house hold items, chain saws, life pig and betel nut trees.

RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau says, “Since the incident involved some dangerous and offensive weapons, police at Buala called for assistance from Honiara. Members of the Police Response Team (PRT) and the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) responded.”

Commissioner Mangau explains, “During the cause of the joint police investigation involving NCID officers and Buala, five suspects were identified and apprehended. Police also questioned one security officer of the Sunshine Mineral Limited in connection with the alleged destruction of properties at Jejevo.”

“Police officers in Isabel are continuing on with their investigation into the incident as others who were involved are still out there,” says Commissioner Mangau

He adds, “I appeal to the parties allegedly involved and the people in that area namely Jejevo, Furona, Jajao and Hurapelo villages to refrain from any unlawful activities but to assist police with information on the incident. This will allow police to apprehend those responsible to face justice.”
