RSIPF prepares for Easter weekend operations
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Honiara and the provincial centres will conduct Easter weekend operations from Good Friday 2 March 2021 until Easter Monday 5 March 2021.
The Operation will include officers from Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province as well as officers of the Traffic Department and National Crime Prevention Department. Provincial centres will also be implementing their Easter Festive Operations
Commissioner Mostyn Mangau says, “The RSIPF officers will be involved in various duties in during the Easter weekend like implementing the Family Protection Act, Crime Prevention Strategy, traffic duties, sea safety measures, community visibility, breach of liquor license conditions and without license and illegal drug surveillance.”
“Consuming liquor in public places is becoming common. This is illegal. There are certain places that are approved premises for liquor consumption for example nightclubs, hotels and resorts. I urge people not to abuse the use of alcohol during your celebrations. If you have to include alcohol in your celebrations, consume it responsibly and don’t drink and drive. This also applies to our small boat owners and skippers as you travel from island to island.”
RSIPF encourages members of communities throughout Solomon Islands to refrain from activities that can lead to crime like:
• disturbance,
• consuming alcohol in public places,
• domestic violence,
• brewing alcohol for sale without a license,
• sale of alcohol without a license,
• possession, sale of dangerous drugs, assaulting of another person,
• damaging and destruction of properties, and
• Endangering property with fire or combustible matter (like flares).
“I urge our good people throughout the country to participate in whatever activities our various churches are organising to commemorate this important event in the Christian calendar,” says Commissioner Mangau
He adds. “I appeal to our good people especially community leaders, church leaders, youth, women representatives, parents guardians to assist your police to ensure this festive season is celebrated peacefully.”
