RSIPF reminds communities on restrictions at the western border

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) deployed at the western border with Papua New Guinea have conducted an awareness talk in the Falemae community on Mono Island, in the Shortlands on the border restrictions and the COVID-19 vaccination program on 6 April 2021.

RSIPF Forward Commander Superintendent Michael Bole says, “The main focus during the awareness talk at Falemae was to remind the people there about the COVID-19 regulations on border crossing restrictions, strengthened the working relationship between the police and the community as well as the COVID-19 vaccination awareness program that will be conducted by the Ministry of Health.”

Superintendent Bole says, “During the awareness talk, officers strongly reminded people of Falemae to welcome the health officials when they arrive to talk about the roll out of the vaccination program. This was emphasised after information received that some members of the Falemae community do not want the health awareness team to go to their community.”

“The community of Falemae thanked police officers for their visit with the very important reminders on ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into Solomon Islands side of the common border with PNG. The people are looking forward to assisting police and other agencies in the fight against COVID-19 at the western border,” says Superintendent Bole.

He adds, “I strongly appeal to the few people in the western border who think they can cross the common border in their outboard motors to stop this immediately. You are not only putting your lives in danger but the lives of your family members and the rest of the people in your community and the nation of Solomon Islands. Let us all work together with our Government in the fight against this deadly COVID-19.”
