RSIPF charges 27-year-old male for attempt rape of 17-year-old girl in Choiseul Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Taro Police Station in Choiseul Province have arrested and charged a 27-year-old male person for allegedly attempt to rape a 17-year-old girl at Vuvudu Village in South Choiseul on 9 April 2021.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province Superintendent Vincent Eria says, “Initial report states that the suspect allegedly push the victim down to the ground, pull her skirt down and indecently pressing her breast. The victim managed to escape after she struggle against the suspect.”

PPC Eria says, “The investigation patrol team upon receiving the report, they attend to it and arrested the suspect. He was charge with Attempt Rape Contrary to Section 136 f (3) of the penal code (amended) (Sexual Offence) Act 2016.”

Superintendent says, “The suspect had just released from Gizo Correctional Centre in relation to his previous conviction. But currently he remanded for another 14 days to be appeared in court on a later date after he was escorted to Gizo on 17 April 2021.”

“I want to appeal to all parents to look after our young girls to avoid such sad incidences from happening in our communities. Never leave our young girls alone even though they are in their teen-age. Further appeal to all men in our communities to respect our young girls as such incident will affect them for the rest of their lives. It is also against the law,” says Mr Eria.
