RSIPF investigates arson incidents in Renbel Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Tingoa Police Station in Renbel Province are investigating two arson incidents occurred at Bellona Island on 24 April 2021.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Renbel Province Staff Sergeant Eddie Peseika says, “The first incident occurred between 9am and 10 am at Matamoana village on West Bellona. It was alleged that a 30-year-old male suspect who drunk with homebrew set fire to a dwelling house on the same village. The incident related to a land issue between the suspect and the complainant party.”
PPC Peseika says, “The second arson incident occurred at Pauta village in Central Bellona between 2pm and 3 pm. It is alleged that an 18-year-old male person who was also drunk with homebrew and burnt down a permanent dwelling house.”
“The incidents was reported to police at the Tingoa Police Station and police officers have attended and arrested the two suspects and placed them in police custody. Both suspects have been dealt with and charged for the offence of arson. They (suspects) will be brought to court for a remand application,” says PPC Peseika.
He emphasize: “I call on good people of Bellona not to take the law into your own hands if you had any disagreement with another person. Police at Tingoa is working very hard to make sure people who involve in such criminal activities to face the full force of the law. I also call on village chiefs, Church leaders to work together with police to make sure our communities is safe and peaceful from criminal activities
