RSIPF investigates grievous harm incident in Temotu Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Lata Police Station in Temotu Province are investigating an alleged grievous harm incident occurred on Taumako village in Duff island on 11 May 2021.

RSIPF Commissioner Mostyn Mangau says, “It is alleged that a group of four male person armed with bush knives and chain-saw blade attacked a victim resulted in the victim sustain multiple serious injuries to his both arms and was rushed to Duff clinic for medical treatment. The incident was related to a land issue between the victim and the suspects.”

“The matter was reported to police at Lata and investigation was carried out. Police are now liaising with chiefs, elders and medical officers at Duff Island on the issue,” adds Commissioner Mangau.

“Due to unstable weather conditions, police at Lata are unable to attend to the report but Lata police are looking forward to attend the report and arrest those suspects when the weather is fine.”

“I appeal to members of both parties of the victim and the suspects to refrain from further retaliation into the incident but allow the police to investigate the matter. I call on members of the community on Duff Island to report any information to police regarding this incident to assist with investigation,” says Commissioner Mangau.
