Police investigate death of a male person in Western Province

Police at Gizo in Western Province are investigating death of a male person from Isabel Province at Gizo on 8 May 2021.

Police Commissioner Mr Mostyn Mangau says, “According to the initial report received, it was stated that on 8 May 2021 between 3 to 4 pm in the afternoon the suspect allegedly assaulted the deceased and sustained bleeding on his mouth.”

Commissioner Mangau says, “During the time of the incident the deceased was drunk and decide not to report the matter to the police or even go to Gizo hospital after the suspect assaulted him.”

Commissioner Mangau adds, “The decease started experiencing dizziness at home in the morning on the 9 May 2021 and he does not want to go to the hospital until he was collapsed and was rushed to Gizo hospital. He was pronounced dead by the medical practitioner.”

“Police are yet to arrest the suspect as he escaped from police to his home island in Shortland Islands after the incident.”

Investigation in to the death incident is still active and police ask people who around that time of the incident to assist police with information relating to the incident.

He says, “On behalf of the police, I wish to extend my condolences and sympathy to the family and relatives of the deceased for the untimely loss of their relative.”

“I call on both parties to refrain from taking the laws in to your own hands but allow police to investigate and deal with the matter,” says Commissioner Mangau.
