A 20-year-old suspect on the run after raping a 6-year-old girl in Malaita Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Auki Police Station are investigating an allegation of rape of a 6-year-old girl in Central Kwara’ae on 7 May 2021.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province, Chief Superintendent Stanley Riolo says, “On 7 May 2021 about 12 mid-day victim with her brother and cousin sister went to find ngali nut.”
PPC Riolo says, “On their return, they met the suspect. The suspect asked them if they could follow him to go for a fishing. They did follow the suspect. When they arrived at the beach, the suspect went fishing while the victim and others were playing.”
Chief Superintendent Riolo says, “After some times, the suspect returned and asked the victim if she could follow him into the cocoa plantation to find worm for bait. The suspect told the other two to stay while the suspect and the victim went to find bait.”
Mr Riolo says, “When they have arrived at the cocoa plantation, the suspect asked the victim but the victim refused. The suspect hold her, took off her clothes and raped her.”
He says, “The victim went back home and on the same evening she felt sick and her mother discovered something wrong with her daughter which she experiencing pain so the mother took her to police and reported the matter.”
“I appeal to our parents and caregivers in Malaita province to keep care watch on our children from such perpetrators. Assign trusted people to accompany our children and young girls. I call on the suspect in relation to this incident to surrender yourself to police. I appeal to the people from the village where the rape incident happened to assist police with information,” says PPC Riolo.
