Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) had a joint meeting with the Honiara City Council (HCC) Law Enforcement Division and Ministry of Infrastructure (MID) Road and Transport and recommended four bus stops within the Point Cruz area to be closed indefinitely as of today (7 June 2021).
The four bus stops are Mission place bus stop, the old Guadalcanal Province bus stop, Honiara Casino bus stop and the one right opposite to it. They have recommended that this will be done for trial basis on how to ease the traffic congestion experienced along the main road from Point Cruz.
Honiara City Council Mayor Eddie Siapu says, “This is to allow the HCC Law Enforcement, Traffic Police and MID officers to monitor and assess how best traffic congestion can be addressed and will be reviewed by the Committee.”
City Mayor adds,

“As the city is preparing towards the Pacific Games in 2023, the focus is to have a better solution to ease traffic congestion.”

The committee have decided that the indefinite closure of the bus stops for trial basis will be effective as of today (7 June 2021).
The RSIPF Deputy Director Traffic Inspector Doreen Vaea urge the general public to take note of the closure and further urge bus drivers and the public to comply and use the nearest bus stops as of the effective date. Let us all work together to make our daily transport routine easy for all of us in the city.
She adds, “Police will closely monitor the changes and kindly ask all road users to continue abide by the traffic laws as Traffic officers will be on the focused areas to support and assist.
