RSIPF witness a reconciliation of a death in relation to fatal accident at Kwaibala River in Malaita Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Auki in Malaita Province have witnessed a reconciliation ceremony done in relation to the fatal accident at Kwaibala River that has claimed a live of a male person in Malaita Province on 14 June 2021.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) National Security and Operation Support Ian Vaevaso says, “Relatives of the deceased came to police and discussed on the matter of their brother’s death seeing that he had died during an accident which his vehicle was ditched in the river driven by another person. They have asked the driver and the passengers to reconcile in their cultural way.”

DC Vaevaso says, “Police in Auki have organized a reconciliation, between the relatives of the deceased and the driver including the passengers on 18 June 2021.”

Mr Vaevaso says, “Police introduced the purpose of the reconciliation and the Police position in this case. Police able to highlight the important of having reconciliation to ensure peace remain amongst us, as one people in the community and province as a whole.”

“The relatives accepted three shell money given to them. They Shook hands together and received the shell money. A closing prayer was said at the end. They have satisfied as the situation was calm after the reconciliation,” says DC Vaevaso.

Even though the reconciliation has happened between both parties, police will still continue with investigation in to the traffic case and bring it before the court.
