Police charge two male suspects for allegation of sexual intercourse incident in Choiseul Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Taro Police Station in Choiseul Province have charged and remanded two male suspects for two incidents of sexual intercourse of child under 15 years old in North West Choiseul recently.
Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau says, “The first incident occurred on 1 June 2021. It is alleged that a 28-year-old man masturbating his 4-year-old stepson. Initial report said that the accused and his stepson went fishing when the incident happened.”
After the incident, the accused and the victim returned home and during that time, the victim’s mother saw blood stein in front of the victim’s trousers. She told the victim to undressed and saw blood coming out from his private part.
The second incident occurred on 10 June 2021.It involved a 76-year-old male allegedly having sexual intercourse with his 7-year-old granddaughter. It is alleged that the accused took her to the garden prior to the incident. While on their way to the garden, the accused pushed the victim and fell on the ground. The accused pulled out the victim’s cloth and committed the offence.
Commissioner Mangau says, “The incidents were reported to police and investigation was carried out.
Both Suspects were arrested on different dates and times and were placed in police custody.”
He says, “Both accused were charged with the offence of sexual intercourse child under 15 years old contrary to section 139 (1) (a) of the penal code (Amended) (Sexual offences) Act 2016.They were both remanded at the Gizo Correctional Centre to appear at the Gizo Magistrates’ Court.”
“I want to appeal to all parents that you are the most trusted people in the family. Sad to see such incidents continue to happen in our communities. I further appeal to all men to respect our young girls and boys as such, incidents will affect them for the rest of their lives. It is also against the law and police will not tolerate this type of action,” says Commissioner,” says Commissioner Mangau.
