A 23-year-old male suspect arrested for assault and damage of properties in Honiara

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at Central Police Station have arrested and charged a 23-year-old male suspect for common assault and damage of properties recently at Pt Cruz area.

It will be alleged in court that around 8am on the 26 June 2021, the defendant appeared drunk, entered a shop and began arguing with the victim. It was during that argument; the defendant punched the victim twice using his both hands close fist and landed on the victim's right side eye.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City, Superintendent John Matamaru says during the argument, it will also be alleged in court that the defendant kicked other displayed items at the shop and damaged a window glass that costs the victim a sum of $1000.00 plus to fix it.

PPC Matamaru says the accused bailed to appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court for his plea on the 19 July 2021 but failed to appear for his trial.

Superintendent Matamaru says the accused was charged for common assault contrary to section 244 of the Penal Code and wilful and unlawful damage contrary to section 326(1) of the Penal Code.
