Police arrest four suspects for damage of properties in Central Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Tulagi in Central Province have arrested four suspects for willful and unlawful damage to properties at Vunuha village in small Ngella on 17 July 2021.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent David Soakai says, “Initial report stated that the incident has occurred in relation to a land issue, in which two parties claimed ownership of it.”
PPC Soakai says, “It was alleged that four male persons chopped down a good number of coconut trees, betel nuts and some garden food that belongs to another party.”
Superintendent Soakai says, “The other party got angry for damaging their properties and arguments broke out between them. They used rocks and other weapons to fight against each other but luckily nobody was wounded or injured during the tense situation.”
Mr. Soakai says, “Police in Tulagi were informed by a member of the Crime Prevention Committee (CPC) in Vunuha village and quickly responded and dispersed the crowd with the help of Chiefs and (CPC) members.”
The suspects were apprehended to Tulagi Police Station, formally arrested, placed in police custody and Charged with willfully and unlawfully damage, and released on bail to appear before court circuit in Tulagi on a later date.
