Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Taro Police Station in Choiseul Province have arrested five male suspects ages between 18 and 28 year-old for malicious damage at Legavana logging company on 8 July 2021.

It was alleged that the suspects were drunk, entered a logging camp in the night, harassed some company workers, and damaged a company vehicle with stones. It was further alleged that the suspects threw stones at the company storage container and dwelling houses, which caused damages.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Choiseul Province, Superintendent Vincent Eria says, “The matter was reported to police and investigation was carried out. Suspects were arrested and placed in police custody on 21 July 2021.”

PPC Eria says, “The suspects were dealt with and charged for one count each for willfully and unlawfully damage contrary to section 326 (1) of the penal code and one count each for criminal trespass contrary to section 189 (2) (iii) of the Penal Code. The suspects were released on bail and will appear in court during a court circuit on 8 September 2021.”

“The arresting team also conducted awareness talks on illegal drugs and illegal selling of liquor at Posarae village. I call on village chiefs and elders in the community to work together with police to stop those illegal activities that cause risk in our communities,” says Superintendent Eria.

He adds, “Investigation into the incident is continuing and I ask anyone you may have any information regarding the incident to come forward and assist police with their investigation.”
