Nine RSIPF officers graduate with level one as EOD specialist in Honiara
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) has graduated 9 officers after went through level 1 of the International Mine Action Standard (IMAS) course as specialist operators today (30 July 2021) at the EOD facility, East of Honiara.
The course was based on the requirement of the IMAS competencies and tailored to World War II Japanese and US UXOs bombs found in the Solomon Islands and the Pacific region. The officers undergo theory lessons, assessments, practical exercises, and field assessments, more live and simulated EOD operations.
Supervising Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Operations Fredrick Satu says, “It is indeed another milestone for RSIPF as this training will provide RSIPF EOD with a much-needed boost to respond to the increased workload expected to provide over the coming years. It will allow a more flexible workforce that can be proactive rather than reactive with respect to search and locating UXOs in our communities.”
AC Satu says “The training enabled the officers to understand why certain procedures and processes are in place for the improvement of the services they are expected to deliver. EOD is a highly specialised unit with significant consequences when procedures are not followed.”
Officer In Charge (OIC) EOD Inspector Clifford Tunuki says, “Working in the field of EOD is not as easy as someone may think. Some members of the team have been pushed out from achieving an IMAS certificate due to low performance standards, commitment, dedication and knowledge. I am confident in these newly graduates as they have shown full time commitment, dedication to their studies, and maintained a high moral discipline, integrity and professionalism.”
The nine police constables including one female were presented with certificates. One officer was presented with a merit certificate for his outstanding performances during the period of the training.
