RSIPF will mount an operation to provide security for delegates attending the 4th Meeting of the Pacific Meteorological Council (PMC) and the 2nd Pacific Ministerial Meteorology Meeting(PMMM) which be held in Honiara from 14 – 18 August 2017.
The meeting will bring together PMC’s members, Cabinet Ministers responsible for meteorology and senior government officials from SPREP member countries and development partners, members of the Council of Regional Organisations in the Pacific (CROP), United Nations and other organisations and institutions to discuss, promote and explore opportunities to strengthen weather, climate, water and ocean services in the Pacific region.
Members of the PMC will also go on a climate change site visit to Boromole Village, Central Islands Province on Sunday 13 August 2017.
The RSIPF operation will include police officers from Honiara City, Guadalcanal Province, Central Islands Province, Police Traffic, Police Maritime, National Intelligence Department, Close Personal Protection Unit, Explosive Ordnance Device team, Police Response Team and other departments within the Force.
“The Operation is a low profile operation and RSIPF is conducting just traffic escort, accommodation, venue static and escort for VIP for guests. Less than hundred officers will be involved. This operation follows on from the G75th anniversary commemorations which ended on Thursday 10 August. RSIPF once again appeals to members of the public in Honiara as well as in the Central Islands Province for your full cooperation,” says Deputy Commissioner, Gabriel Manelusi who will be overall Operations Commander of this operation.
“The public in Honiara will experience some delays on our roads during the meetings as Traffic Police accompanies delegates to the various venues of the meetings so we appeal for your patience. We must make our visitors feel welcomed during their stay in our country,” says Deputy Commissioner, Manelusi.
Police will also conduct normal high visibility patrols throughout Honiara City during the operations to ensure law and order is maintained.
