Fire and Rescue Services of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has conducted firefighting skills to 44 employees of Sol-Tuna Company at Noro in the Western Province on 10 August 2021.

Four days training was done indoors at the processing plant training room while the basic firefighting knowledge and firefighting skills demonstration was conducted at the Sol-tuna football field.

Director Fire and Rescue Services, Superintendent Stephen Dekyi says, “The workers learned how to use fire extinguishers which are usable with small fires within human heights. They learn basic structural firefighting on how to bow, roll up hose and how to connect nozzles to hoses.”

Superintendent Dekyi says, “The employees also learn how to adjust nozzles to use firefighting steams such as jet, spray and fog which are applicable for fire in certain levels of severity.”

“In fire incident management they learned about critical fire control factors which are to be considered before attending a fire incident. Factors of manpower and firefighting resources and their appropriateness to any given fire or oil spill incidents in the cannery compound is important,” Mr Dekyi adds.

Director Dekyi says, “I would like to acknowledge training officers for the job well done. Certificates will be awarded to the participants for successful completion of the basic firefighting, structural firefighting and fire incident management training.”
