CPCs in Savo Island boosted with Crime Prevention workshop

You are the eyes, ears and voice of the police in your community to work in partnership to manage crime and protect people in your communities, a strong statement alluded by Community Policing Officer, Central Province, Constable Mumane during a workshop conducted at Kuila village in Savo Island on 20 September 2021.

20 Crime prevention Committee members (CPCs) both male and female from both North and South Savo ward12 and 13 in Central Province, participated in a day workshop conducted by police officers from Tulagi Police Station.

Facilitators of the workshop were the Operation Manager (Ops) Tulagi Police Station Inspector George Mouli, Community Policing Officer, Tulagi Police, Constable Matthew Mumane and Coordinating officer of the good governance and grievous management program in Central Province Mr. Robert Fox Manebona.

The workshop covered the five components of the Crime Prevention Strategy 2019-2022 to address the five drivers of crime and the use of the SARA model- Scanning, Assess, Responses and Analysis, a model to solve problems. The workshop also covered the link between the setting of good governance and CPC partnership when it came to a matter of security and development wise into the community.

Ops Manager, Tulagi Police Station, Inspector George Mouli acknowledged the presence and partnership of the Provincial Coordinator Good Governance and Grievous Management program in Central Province and CPC for their time and effort rendering to their hard working support in the community to reduce crimes. This workshop is to re-equip you to move forward in your duties to support the work of the chiefs in the community.”

Inspector Mouli says, “The strategy is one of the tools in which police used to operationalise the proactive approaches in terms of policing down to the community. It did not change anything within the community set-up but to re-enforce the strength of taking ownership within our culture and custom of solving problems.”

“I appeal to all CPC’s in Central Province to stay calm while the program continues to roll out. I also appeal to all communities in Central Province to respect the work of the CPC’s in their communities together with the chiefs for the betterment of our community,” Mr. Mouli said.

Speaking during the workshop, Community Policing Officer, Central Province Constable Mumane told the committees that you are identified by your communities to become a CPC members and that you are the eyes, ears and voice of the police in your community to work in partnership to manage crime, protect the vulnerable and to educate our people.

Provincial Coordinator Good Governance and Grievous Management program in Central Province Mr. Robert Fox Manebona, says, “The program will always continue to liaise with the police in Tulagi to make sure close collaboration happens to archive wonderful things in our communities.”

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent David Soakai says, “I would like to acknowledge the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through Ministry of Provincial Government to support Community Governance and Grievance Management Project to support the roll-out of the by-laws and Crime Prevention workshop in Central Province.”
