Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force at the Henderson and Tetere Police Station are investigating an alleged unlawful wounding incident involving two parties in North East Guadalcanal on 19 September 2021.

An initial report on the incident said that an argument broke out during a card game for beer at Koivo village in the North East Guadalcanal.

It was alleged that one of the men wounded a 35-year-old male on the mouth using a bush knife and sustained injuries. The victim was transported to the Good Samaritan Hospital for medical treatment.

On the same day, the relatives of the 35-year-old victim heard what had happened, retaliated to the incident, and wounded a 20-year-old boy on his left hand wrist with a bush knife. The victim was rushed to the National Referral Hospital for medical treatment.

Police Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau says, “Police responded and managed to control and calm the tense situation between the two parties.”

Commissioner Mangau says, “Community Chiefs and elders were reached to assist police on the matter and during the meeting the community were strongly warned not to do further retaliation.”

“So far no arrests have been made while investigations into this matter are continuing. I appeal to members of the communities at Koivo who may have any information about the incident to come forward and report it to the police. Please assist our investigators to get those responsible to face justice,” says Mr Mangau.
