Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force at Tulagi Police Station in Central Province have arrested and charged a 26-year-old male suspect for indecent assault of a 70-year-old woman on 21 September 2021.

Initial report said that about 3am early in the morning 19 August 2021, the victim walked to the beach for a convenience purpose. While the victim was at the beach, the suspect came from behind the victim, grabbed her, and closed her mouth with his hand.
The suspect then holds onto the victim’s private part without her consent but luckily, the victim manages to escape from the suspect.

Police Commissioner Mr Mostyn Mangau says, “The matter was reported to police and the suspect was arrested and placed in police custody.”

Commissioner Mangau says, “The suspect was released and dealt with accordingly and charged for the offence of indecent assault contrary to section 141 of the Penal Code. He was released on bail to appear before the Tulagi Magistrates’ Court at a later date.”

“Investigations into the matter continue. I appeal to the people in communities around Central Province to respect our old women and girls. Police will not tolerate anyone with no care attitude, being ignorant and disrespecting women, girls and vulnerable people in our communities,” says Commissioner Mangau.
