Two male defendants aged 20 and 23-year-old have pleaded guilty for consumption of liquor in public places before a sitting Magistrate in the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 1 to 2 October 2021.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander Honiara City Superintendent Jimson Robo says, “The two defendants were found guilty for the offence and sentenced. The first defendant who has a previous court conviction will pay a fine of $600.00 while the second defendant is sentenced to pay a fine of $300.00.”

PPC Robo says, “If the defendants have not paid for their fines, the first defendant will serve 30 days Imprisonment and the second defendant will serve 14 days imprisonment.”

On 30 September 2021, a police patrol sighted the 20-year-old defendant drinking alcohol in front of the Island Clothing shop at Point Cruz. The defendant was arrested and taken to Central Police Station and placed in police custody.

The second defendant was arrested on 1 October 2021 at the Honiara Central market. Officer on patrol sighted the defendant consuming liquor in the public place. He was arrested and placed in police custody at the Central Police Station.

“I would like to thank the officers involved in the investigation to get the suspects before the court. I appeal to the public in Honiara that it is an offence to consume liquor in public places. If you bought alcohol, please go to your home before you consume it. Police will arrest you if you drink alcohol in public places,” says PPC Robo.
