RSIPF investigates traffic accident in Honiara

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the National Traffic Department are investigating an accident, which occurred at the junction between Bishop Epalle School, Ngossi and Tavio on 12 October 2021.

Deputy Director at the National Traffic Department Inspector Doreen Vaea says, “The incident occurred as a white Tipper truck registration number MC7016 was travelling down the Ngossi road when approaching Bishop Epalle Junction road got into mechanical problem and run off the main road and ditched into the left side drain of the junction.”

“Whilst the vehicle was encountering a mechanical problem on its way toward the junction it hits a female pedestrian and fell in the drain. Luckily the female pedestrian survived the hit.” Inspector Vaea adds
“Police then was alerted and attended to the scene but the victims and the accused were already transported to National Referral Hospital for medical attention.”

“Investigation Team from the Traffic Department visited the victims at the National Referral Hospital and confirmed the condition of all the three people are stable. The Female pedestrian had already discharged whilst the driver of the vehicle and the passengers was still at the Hospital for further medical treatment as of 13 October 2021.” Says Deputy Director Vaea

“Investigation into this matter still in progress and the driver of the vehicle will be dealt with after being recovered and discharged from the hospital.” Inspector Vaea adds

“Vehicle owners and drivers please always adhere to the rules and regulations of the Road Traffic Act. They are there to safe guard us. When your vehicle is not of road worthy, it should not be out on the road running. It is very dangerous to be on the road because it can result to such incidences that can cost innocents lives of pedestrian or others using the road.”
