Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force at Tulagi Police Station in Central Province have arrested a 22-year old male suspect for assaulting a male person in his 40s on 24 October 2021.
Initial report said that the victim approached his son in-law whom was the suspect at Komumatanga village, Savo Island for not paying the bride price of his daughter and compensation in relation to an incident occurred last year that the suspect stabbed his daughter on the head using a scissors. The suspect failed to pay for the claims and continue living with the victim’s daughter.
The victim told his daughter to stay away from the suspect. It was alleged that an argument broke out which resulted in the suspect unlawfully assaulted the victim causing injuries to his face.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province Superintendent David Soakai says, “The matter was reported to police by the victim and the suspect was arrested on 25 October 2021 and placed in police custody.”
PPC Soakai says, “The suspect was later released and charged for the offence of assault causing actual bodily harm Contrary to Section 245 of the Penal Code and released on bail to appear at the Tulagi Magistrates’ Court at a later date.”
“I appeal to the people in communities around Savo Island to respect each other and consult police through our CPCs if you have any disagreement with anyone in the community. Police will not tolerate anyone with no care attitude, being ignorant and disrespecting people and CPCs in our communities,” says PPC Soakai.
