Police witness reconciliation in relation to the recent fatal accident in Honiara recently

Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) have witnessed reconciliation between the family of the suspect and the deceased in relation to the fatal incident, which occurred at the Fishing village area on 1 November 2021.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Honiara City, Superintendent Jimson Robo says, “The party of the suspect was led by his father and accompanied by his wife, other family members and met with the family of the deceased.”

PPC Robo says, “A spokesperson from the deceased family stated that after the first meeting at Central Police Station on the 31 October 2021, they are happy and prepared to accept any compensation with an understanding and promised that they will honour and respect the reconciliation.”

Superintendent Robo says, “The father of the suspect apologised to the family of the deceased for the loss of their son and further stresses that no amount of money can buy the life of their loved one but accepting any gift from his family is an indication of peace and bridging the broken relationship.”

Mr Robo says, “The suspect’s family gave some cash and custom shell money to the family of the deceased and they accept it.”

PPC Honiara City says, “Reconciliation is a method of facilitating open engagements between individuals and families in communities, police and other authorities. This allows them to address grievances, misconceptions, and reset relationships. Respect, collaboration, and effective working relationships between police and the communities they served.”
