An accused person has served for two years and one month imprisonment after he pleaded guilty for seven counts related to domestic violence on 22 October 2021.

Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Temotu Province, Superintendent James Toaki says this is a good decision made by Lata Magistrates’ Court on such issues.

PPC Toaki says the accused was arrested and charged for seven counts. He appeared before the court with two counts for assault causing actual bodily harm and five counts for domestic violence.

Superintendent Toaki says the accused did it several times in one year to his immediate family members, of which the victims were his wife and her two biological daughters.

Mr Toaki says, initial report stated that the accused always used weapons such as knives and sticks to harm the victims. The matter was reported to Lata police and the suspect was arrested.

He says now the accused is facing justice for his own actions and calls on the good people of Temotu Province to always respect our women and girls. They are described as vulnerable people in our communities.
