Police provide visibility on the street of Honiara

AC Pogeava and RAPPP Commander Mr. Paul Osborne in Chinatown

Assistant Commissioner (AC) National Capital and Crime Prevention Mr Simpson Pogeava of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) made a brief visit to Chinatown and walked through the main streets of Honiara on 3 December 2021.

The walk through is jointly conducted by the Operation Commander of RSIPF and the Contingent Commander of the Solomon’s International Assistance Force [SIAF] Paul Osborne along with the Commander RAPPP.

AC Pogeava said it is good to take time out from the office, walk through the streets, and interact with the public to further instil public confidence in our people.

The team made a quick stop over at Chinatown to observe the burnt down buildings and walked from the Central Magistrates’ Court down to the underground pass in Pt. Cruz, stopping and talking with the people along the way.

Mr Pogeava said: “I was happy to interact with the public on the streets of Honiara and to see people move freely and do their Christmas shopping. They expressed their thankfulness for police restoring law and order back to the city of Honiara after the unrest with the support from the neighboring countries.

“Having normalcy return to the city and the business houses are back to their normal operations is a positive step, hence I ask the good law abiding people of Solomon Islands, especially in Honiara, to work together with the police.

Please, let us have respect for one another and enjoy ourselves as we all look forward to celebrating the Festive Season,” AC Pogeava said.

“We request your cooperation and understanding as the police are prepared and committed to provide a heavy presence during the parliament sitting next week. I call on the general public and good residents of Honiara to refrain from taking the laws into their own hands.”
