Police save Telekom building in Western Province
Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at Noro, Western Province, have saved a Telekom company building that was on fire on 7 December 2021.
Officer Commanding Station (OCS) in Noro, Inspector Robert Hickie said that report from Telekom Technicians discovered that a server room located inside the main commercial office was on fire.
“It was suspected that a battery terminal box was faulty and friction had ignited the fire,” Inspector Hickie said.
“Upon arrival at the scene, the building was almost covered with thick smoke, preventing visibility to locate the source of the fire.
“The conditions were extremely unpleasant and low visibility meant police could do little to save other properties. The fire-fighting team assigned were equipped with fire extinguishers located at the building and joined together with police to fight the fire,” he said
Inspector Hickie said the joint effort and the timely intervention by the Noro Police saved the company valuable infrastructure from further damage.
“I want to acknowledge my team for the job well done,” He said.
