Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) at the Henderson Police Station have arrested a 29-year-old male suspect for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl at the Lungga farm in Central Guadalcanal on 4 December 2021.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Guadalcanal Province, Inspector Mary Ake says, “At about 6pm on Saturday 4 December 2021 the victim was playing with other kids of her age in and around their dwelling house at the Lungga farm area.”

PPC Ake says, “Her aunty called the victim and told her to go and buy a dry coconut fruit at a nearby canteen. The suspect allegedly called the victim and pulled her into his house and raped her.”

The investigation into the matter is progressing. The suspect has been remanded and will appear before the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court on 21 December 2021.

“I appeal to all parents to take extra care of our little children. Such an incident is unacceptable in our communities. Let us be responsible for our children. It’s sad as this incident will affect the little girl for the rest of her life,” says PPC Ake.

The suspect has been charged for one count of sexual intercourse for a child under 15 years old contrary to section 139(1) of the Penal Code, Cap 26 as amended by the Penal Code (Amendment) (Sexual Offences) Act 2016.
