RSIPF and SIAF gear up for the upcoming Parliament meeting next week

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and Solomon Island Assistance Force (SIAF) gear up in riot equipment for the scheduled resumption of Parliament meeting next week.

Commissioner of RSIPF Mr Mostyn Mangau says, “The training happened at the Rove Oval with different scenarios being conducted to test the police capability should there be any planned protest during the meeting.”

Commissioner Mangau says, “There will be heavy police presence in some of the strategic locations in Honiara City and some checkpoints will be erected to manage people movements during the meeting.”

Mr Mangau says, “I appeal to the good people of Solomon Island to stay out from any planned protest during this parliament meeting. Police will deal with anyone seriously if arrested. And I also appeal to business houses to continue with your business as usual.”

He says, “I am happy that SIAF had additional members from Australia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) arrive in Honiara to support the RSIPF. SIAF members participated in some RSIPF Public Order Management (POM) interoperability training. That POM training included members from:
• SIAF members;
• Police Response Team;
• Central Response Unit; and
• Guadalcanal Province Response Unit.”

Mr Mangau says, “This training included Australian Federal Police (AFP) Specialist Operations (SO) Tactical Response members who are highly trained tactical specialists. This Specialist Operations capability has a long history of training and conducting Specialist Operations with the RSIPF Police Response Team in the Solomon Islands.”
