Police witness compensation payment in Malaita Province

Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police (RSIPF) at Atori Police Station in Malaita Province attended and witnessed a compensation settlement held at Ato village in Baegu Asifola.

Three young men were currently serving life imprisonment sentences for that matter.

Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Malaita Province Inspector Charles Edward Koto says the compensation was in relation to a murder incident happened in 2019.

PPC Koto says sixteen shell money was paid during the settlement as witnessed. Chief Wilson Rii on behalf of the deceased party declared that the presented shell money is a completion of the 50-shell money for the life of the deceased. While $50.000.00 cash money is yet to be given to the deceased side.

Chief Rii also publicly declared that the suspect’s party is now free to move around. Father George Kiriu of the Anglican Church also witnessed the compensation ceremony.

The compensation ceremony was done peacefully and attended by members of both parties.
