Officers of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) in Gizo have conducted an awareness program following a request from the community leaders of Kongu community in Gizo Island Western Province.
The Police Community Policing team (COMPOL) together with the general duty officers conducted the awareness talk to Kongu community as part of the community engagement under the crime prevention strategy.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province Chief Superintendent Mathias Lenialu says, “The awareness program focused mainly on youths who have been influenced and involved in social activities that brought in unwanted habits to the communities.”
“The awareness talk is based on public related offences like homebrew (kwaso), public nuisance and domestic violence that have been experienced in our own homes and communities every now and then,” says PPC Lenialu.
Community in Kongu were very pleased and they decided to form their crime prevention committee (CPC) to assist police after the awareness program.
