A male person was transported to the National Referral Hospital (NRH) as a result of motor vehicle accident at Bahai, Kukum area in east of Honiara on 1 May 2022.

Director of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) National Traffic Department Inspector Hugo Maelasi says, “The car was travelling in a westerly direction when it accidently do a U-turn in front of the St Nicholas junction and the vehicle ended up at the sea side of the Saru beach.”

Inspector Maelasi adds, “The Traffic investigators attended to the report and transported the driver who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol to NRH.”

“Police have continuously warned drivers not to drink and drive as it could result in a tragic accident. This particular incident is a good example of drivers choosing not to listen to advice that has been consistently put out through all the media,” says Inspector Maelasi.

“This is very sad as the irresponsible consumption of alcohol continues. I want to appeal to drivers or vehicle owners to heed the continuous warning that if you drink, please do not drive. You are simply putting your own life and that of others in danger,” Inspector Maelasi emphasises.
