RSIPF officers from Honiara City and Guadalcanal Province are mounting an operation to maintain security during the FIFA World Cup Qualifier match between Solomon Islands and New Zealand which will be played at Lawson Tama tomorrow 5 September 2017.
The operation will start today and end on 6 September when the New Zealand Soccer team is expected to leave Honiara.
“RSIPF reminds residents of Honiara, especially the soccer fans who are planning to go and watch the match at Lawson Tama, to remember that the whole world is watching Solomon Islands on this one. We therefore appeal to our good citizens to go and enjoy the soccer and show to the world that we are a sports loving nation which respects law and order,” says Deputy Commissioner, Gabriel Manelusi who is overall Commander of this Operation.
“I call on our soccer fans to accept whatever the result of tomorrow’s match in the spirit of good sportsmanship,” says Deputy Commissioner, Manelusi.
Mr Manelusi adds: “Members of the public are kindly requested not to park in front of the Lawson Tama stadium and police will not allow any market vendors around the same area for tomorrow’s match.”
The Police operation will include visibility patrols in and around Honiara City and as well traffic escorts for the New Zealand soccer team until its departure on Wednesday this week.
Besides Police, the Solomon Islands Football Federation is also providing security within Lawson Tama Stadium during the match.
