CRU and PRU officers completed the POM training conducted by the PRC instructors

The City Response Unit (CRU) in Honiara Police Station and Provincial Response Unit (PRU) under Guadalcanal Police of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) are the latest group that benefited from a Public Order Management (POM) training which conducted by instructor from the China Police Liaison Team (CPLT).

The two weeks training was completed on 17 June 2022 with a handing over ceremony of certificates presented to 18 officers who participated. The certificates were issued by RSIPF Assistant Commissioner (AC) Mr. Simpson Pogeava and Team Leader of CPLT Mr. Zhang Guangbao.

The Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands Mr. Yao Ming, Provincial Police Commander (PPC)-Guadalcanal Province, instructors of CPLT also attended and witnessed the closing ceremony.

The POM training is aimed to improve these officers’ comprehensive capacity and capability when responding to emergencies. The training includes the utilization of equipment such as tactical baton, T-shaped baton, handcuffs, shields and the basic application and transformation of POM formations.

The program also covers how to survive as individuals after the formation is dispersed, which is common in real situations, and how to regroup from individuals and continue the operations. Each training item is assessed to make sure they are mastered by all the officers.

The capacity and capability of PRU and CRU officers on use of equipment, self-defence, counterattack and cooperation have been obviously strengthened by the training. The training boost the capacity and capability of RSIPF and provide a strong support to the safety and stability of Solomon Islands.
