RAPPP donates goods to Christian Care Centre

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) partnership program with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), RSIPF-AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP), donated victim support packages to the Christian Care Centre (CCC) at Tenaru in North Guadalcanal last week.
AFP Superintendent, Steve Turnbull, handed over the victim care packages, which were funded by the RAPPP and by AFP members’ donations. The church sisters who run the day-to-day operation of the Centre, provided Superintendent Turnbull with an overview of the Centre and its functions.
Superintendent Turnbull noted that “the AFP have supported the CCC since RAMSI and it was pleasing to see the items provided over the years continue to assist the great work the Centre does for the community in combatting family violence”.
As part of its mission in the country through the RAPPP, AFP seeks to promote gender mainstreaming in ensuring that gender and social inclusion is considered in every aspect of its program deliverables.
AFP is supporting the RSIPF in frontline advisory and specialised trainings to upskill officers and support them to tackle the increasing level of sexual and gender-based violence incidents.
Under the RAPPP, the AFP will support the RSIPF combat gender-based violence in the community and to increase opportunities and participation in training and development for the RSIPF women.
RSIPF Chief of Staff Laisalyn Mua, said “partnerships with external organisations like the Centre are very important in supporting the RSIPF and the victims of these crimes, it is very valuable service to the community and shows how RSIPF and partners can work together to serve our community”.
The CCC remains a safe haven for victims who are physically abused by their partners or family members by providing temporary shelter to survivors of violence and their children for as long as possible as needed as determined on a case-by-case basis.
Other services the Centre provide includes; basic faith-based and pastoral counselling, referral of survivors to appropriate service within SAFENET and according to need of the survivor, escort survivor where at all possible to appropriate service within SAFENET and according to need of the survivor, advocate prevention of gender-based violence and support the development and implementation of prevention strategies.
