Police gear up for upcoming parliament sitting

The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and Solomons’ International Assistance Force (SIAF) are gearing up for the parliament sitting next week.

The RSIPF Commissioner Mr. Mostyn Mangau appeals to all citizens and the public of Solomon Islands to observe the upcoming parliament sitting with respect. The RSIPF and SIAF aim to provide a safe and secure sitting of parliament together with the assistance of the Solomon Islands public. Iumi tugeda for a safer Solomon Islands.

Operation Parliament has specialist teams from SIAF and RSIPF deployed for the sitting period. RSIPF and SIAF officers will conduct proactive patrols and mount roadblocks to deal with any public disorder issues swiftly to support a peaceful sitting period.

The operation will provide security, protection and a response capability to any unrest during the Parliamentary sitting period. SIAF officers will join with RSIPF Public Order Management officers from Central Response Unit (CRU), Provincial Response Unit (PRU) and Police Response Team (PRT), supported by the RSIPF frontline members.

Commissioner Mangau and Deputy Commissioner SIAF Davies, reinforced the message that the team is prepared for the Operation, and reiterated that Honiara, areas to the east and west of the city will be saturated with 24/7 RSIPF and SIAF patrols. Criminal activity and instigators of violence or unrest will be arrested; patrols will include roadblocks that will be supported by aerial surveillance. SIAF is here to assist RSIPF in maintaining peace and security for the people of Solomon Islands.

Mr. Mangau echoed this message and thanked the community and church leaders for their support to the previous operations and appealed for this to continue for the upcoming operation. RSIPF is determined to deliver a safe and peaceful operation and I encourage members of the community to support the democratic processes here in Solomon Islands and to listen to RSIPF directives as noncompliance to security arrangements will be dealt with appropriate force to protect the community from further unrest.
